Blood tests - our laboratories and opening hours

Do you have an appointment to take a blood test at the hospital? See our opening hours and locations below.

As a general rule, patients should have blood samples taken by their GP (fastlege). If you have a child under the age of 10, or if the samples require special care, you may have the samples taken at the hospital.

On Thursdays, we are closed from 10:45 to 11:45.

Please register at the Imatis self check-in terminal on the 4th floor when you arrive. You will then receive a queue ticket.

The laboratory at Stord

We are located on the ground floor at Stord Hospital.

Opening hours

We are open on weekdays from 08:00 to 14:30.

Please register at the Imatis self-help terminal at the main entrance when you arrive to receive a queue ticket. You should then proceed to the waiting area for radiology and the laboratory.

The laboratory in Odda

We are located on the underground level (U1) at Odda Hospital.

Opening hours

We are open on weekdays from 09:00 to 14:00.

Please take a queue ticket when you arrive.

Some patients and patient groups are given priority for blood samples. We ask for your patience and understanding. This applies to all laboratories.

Blood tests for children

For children, a blood test can feel scary or painful. Our staff will do everything they can to make the experience as comfortable as possible.

To make the blood test more comfortable for your child, you can use a numbing patch or cream beforehand. This is called EMBLA and can be bought at a pharmacy without a prescription. Apply it at least one hour before the blood test and remove it 10 minutes before the test.

Preparing for a blood test

  • Avoid heavy physical activity in the days before a blood test.
  • Check with your doctor if you need to fast before the test. Fasting means that you should not eat, drink, smoke, or use snus in the 8 hours before the test. You may drink a small amount of water.
  • Take your regular medicines as normal, unless your doctor has given you other instructions.
  • It is recommended that you rest for 15 minutes before the blood test.
  • Please expect some waiting time.
