Maternity and Childbirth, Haugesund

You may have many questions about childbirth and the postpartum period. We have gathered important and useful information to help and support you.

Contact us if you experience

  • Bleeding
  • Abdominal pain
  • Signs of labor
  • Your water breaks
  • Contractions
  • If you are unsure whether the baby is doing well in the womb
  • If you become acutely ill during pregnancy (severe headache, nausea, abdominal pain)

Always bring the papers from your midwife and/or doctor when you come to the maternity clinic or labor/postnatal, and any wish letters if you have them.

For pregnant women and those giving birth, we offer

  • Maternity clinic for those with complications in pregnancy, observation beds, a delivery unit with five delivery rooms, and a postnatal unit with a postnatal clinic.
  • At Haugesund Hospital, we have up to 1400 births a year.
  • We accept children from pregnancy week 28 or if the baby weighs over 1000 grams.
  • Complicated births before week 28 are transferred to Stavanger University Hospital or the Women's Clinic in Bergen.

3rd floor in the new building at Haugesund Hospital. Go through the double doors by Narvesen and take the elevator or stairs up to our department.

Visiting hours and guidelines for visits

  • Father of the child: 9:00 AM - 9:00 PM
  • Siblings and grandparents of the child: 5:00 PM - 6:00 PM

Other visitors are not allowed in the department for the sake of the mother and child.
