How do I apply?

Available positions are advertised on the Norwegian Directorate of Health’s website, which provides national information about LIS 1 recruitment, application deadlines and requirements.

What is our recruitment process?

The Human Resources (HR) Department at the Department for Education and Competence manages the recruitment process in cooperation with relevant staff from the clinics.

In recent years, Helse Fonna has received around 350 applications for each intake. All applications are reviewed, and a selection of candidates are invited for interviews. Interviews are carried out either in person or via Teams/telephone.

We follow the Norwegian Directorate of Health’s deadlines when offers of employment are sent out.

Organisation of clinical rotations

We offer both two-part rotations (medicine and surgery) and three-part rotations (medicine, surgery and psychiatry).

Employment contracts for LIS1 positions are based on the current agreements between the Norwegian Medical Association and the employer’s organisation Spekter.

We also offer a three-part rotation at Haugesund Hospital. This means that doctors rotate through three specialties, either medicine, surgery and neurology, or medicine surgery and paediatrics.

Mutual expectations

You can expect to have a supervisor who supports your professional and personal development. We also have a senior consultant working part-time in the HR Department who is responsible for the professional quality of the LIS1 programme at Helse Fonna.

We want you to have a good experience as an LIS1 doctor with us, and we want to support you in achieving the learning objectives for your training.

Our introduction programme

Your LIS1 training in Helse Fonna begins with a six-day introduction programme. The first few days are a shared programme held at Haugesund Hospital, where you will meet fellow LIS1 doctors and receive essential training to help you get started.

The remaining days will take place at the hospitals in Haugesund, Stord or Odda. Here you will receive local introductions and information tailored to your department – giving you the knowledge and preparation you need to begin your clinical work.

Work tasks

As a LIS1 doctor, you will mainly work in the emergency department and on the clinical wards. In the emergency department, you receive patients on arrival, carry out initial assessments, and suggest further diagnostics and treatment at the appropriate department.

All this is done under the supervision of a doctor in specialist training (LIS2 and/or LIS3). On the wards, you take part in the daily clinical work, including admitting elective patients, participating in ward rounds and managing patient discharges.

Documentation

The regional health authorities have introduced the Competence Portal (Kompetanseportalen) as a documentation system for specialist training (LIS).

The Competence Portal is used to document completed learning activities and achieved learning objectives throughout the entire specialist training programme.

Housing

We can help you with finding suitable accommodation. If you need assistance with housing, please contact Fonnatorget by e-mail at fonnatorget@helse-fonna.no after your employment has been confirmed.
