Training programme for doctors in specialist training

The training of medical specialists is carried out within a professional framework to ensure high quality.

The training programme

Specialist training begins once you have been granted authorisation to practice medicine in Norway. You complete your training while working in a hospital post as a doctor in specialist training (LIS). The training has two or three parts, depending on the specialty. LIS 1 is common to all specialties and has replaced the former internship scheme.

The training committee

Helse Fonna has a training committee that coordinates the work of the specialty-specific training committees. The training committee includes senior consultants, clinic managers, the medical director, a union representative, a LIS representative and a representative from Human Resources.

What we offer

We aim to make Helse Fonna a preferred training site for doctors in specialist training (LIS). In recent years, we have increased basic pay for doctors to ensure we remain competitive, introduced a recruitment allowance that increases with years of service, and provided monthly grants for periods of centralised service. We also offer an introduction programme to ensure that new doctors receive a good and structured start in Helse Fonna.
