Hovud- og halskreft

Hovud- og halskreft er ei nemning på vondarta svulstar som kjem frå nase og biholer, leppe, munnhole, svelg, strupehovud eller spyttkjertlar. Dei primære behandlingsmetodane er operasjon og strålebehandling.

Kreft i hode- og halsregionen kan oppstå i strupehode, svelg (tungerot og mandlene), leppe og munn, nese, bihuler og spyttkjertler.

Tilvising og vurdering

Når fastlegen har grunngitt mistanke om kreft skal du bli tilvist til ØNH-spesialist. Dersom undersøkingar hos ØNH-spesialist gir grunngitt mistanke om hovud- og halskreft blir du tilvist til pakkeforløp for hovud- og halskreft. Eit pakkeforløp er eit standardisert pasientforløp som beskriv organiseringa av utgreiing og behandling, kommunikasjon/dialog med deg og dine pårørande, og dessutan ansvarsplassering og konkrete forløpstider.

Forløpskoordinatoren sørger for å sette opp timane du skal ha i utgreiinga.

Utredning

I løpet av utgreiinga blir det gjort undersøkingar av deg for å avklare om du har kreft eller ikkje.

Kva undersøkingar som blir gjorde varierer, men mange blir undersøkte med ulike røntgenundersøkingar.

Nokon blir også undersøkte med eit skop, ein liten optisk slange som vi fører ned gjennom nase eller svelg for å skaffe betre oversikt over området som skal undersøkast. Det blir ofte tatt ei vevsprøve for å stille diagnosen.

Når resultata frå undersøkingane og prøvene er klare, vil vi som oftast kunne avklare om du har kreft eller ikkje og vi tar avgjerd om diagnose. Om du ikkje har kreft, avsluttar vi pakkeforløpet.

Det vil bli gjort ei vanleg tannlegeundersøking (ein lagar tannvernarar ved openberr stråling). I tillegg skal du til samtale og undersøking hos øyre-nase-hals-lege.

Dersom du har tilleggssjukdommar, for eksempel hjarte-lungesjukdom, kan det vere aktuelt å vise deg til hjarte- og/eller lungelege i forkant av utgreiinga.

Alle pasientar som får ein kreftdiagnose, blir inkludert i pakkeforløp heim for pasientar med kreft. Gjennom pakkeforløpet går vi gjennom dei individuelle behova dine for tenester og oppfølging utover sjølve kreftbehandlinga.

Behandling

Dersom du har kreft, planlegg vi kva behandling som er best for deg. Beslutninga om behandling tar vi i lag med deg, vanlegvis basert på vurderingar som er gjort i eit tverrfagleg team-møte.

Samval inneber at du mottek informasjon om fordelar og ulemper ved dei ulike alternativa. Så kan du saman med helsepersonell sjå desse opp mot kvarandre, ut ifrå kva som er viktig for deg.

Her er tre spørsmål du kan stille din behandlar:

  1. ​Kva alternativ har eg?
  2. Kva fordelar og ulemper er moglege ved desse alternativa?
  3. Kor sannsynleg er det at eg vil oppleve nokre av desse?

For pasientar med hovud-og halskreft vil som regel behandlinga vere operasjon, cellegift eller strålebehandling aleine eller i kombinasjon.

Tilleggsbehandlingar

Nokre kreftsvulstar er meir aggressive enn andre, og dei kan ha til dels betydeleg lokal vekst. Desse svulsttypane krev ofte behandling utover operasjon eller strålebehandling. Målet med tilleggsbehandlinga er å auke langtidsoverleving ved å minske svulsten og fjerne eventuelle kreftceller som har spreidd seg.

Lindrande behandling

Ved langt kommen kreft der sjukdommen ikkje kan heilast ligg det nå føre ei rekke moglegheiter både til livsforlengande behandling og god førebygging og lindring av symptom. Mange pasientar kan leve bra i årevis med kreft som har spreidd seg, og mange døyr av heilt andre årsaker.

Oppfølging

Etter at du har gjennomført og avslutta anbefalt behandling, vil du få tett oppfølging både på sjukehuset og hos fastlegen din. Behandlinga du har vore gjennom vil vere førande for kva type oppfølging, og kor ofte du skal ha oppfølging.

Vanleg kontrollregime etter avslutta behandling for hovud- og halskreft er:

  • 0–1 år: Kontroll klinisk kvar 2. månad
  • 1–2 år: Kontroll klinisk kvar 3. månad
  • 2–5 år: Kontroll klinisk kvar 4.–6. månad

Rehabilitering og meistring ved kreftsjukdom

Det finst ei rekke tilbod som kan vere ei hjelp til å komme tilbake til kvardagen under og etter kreftsjukdom. Derfor er det viktig å tenke rehabilitering og meistring av sjukdommen heilt frå sjukdomsstart og begynninga av behandlinga. Målet er å kunne fungere og leve med eller etter kreftsjukdom, med god livskvalitet.

Haugesund: ØNH-avdelinga og høyrselsentralen held til i 1. etasje ved Haugesund sjukehus. Bruk hovudinngangen og gå forbi resepsjonen og sjukehusapoteket. Du finn oss i enden av korridoren.

Stord: Høyrselsentralen ligg i 1. etasje i den kvite bygningen ved sida av hovudbygget.

Odda: ØNH-poliklinikken ligg i 1. etasje på Odda sjukehus. Poliklinikken har eige venterom.

Ved tilpassing av høyreapparat, anbefaler vi at pasienten har med seg følge/pårørande.

Kystbussen has a terminal in Leirvik town centre. See NOR-WAY Bussekspress | Kystbussen for route information. From there, local busses run to the hospital and the DPS. Further information about local bus timetables is available at Skyss.no/en.

Praktisk informasjon

Patients who require overnight accommodation can call our contact centre by phone on 52 73 90 00. Please notify us well in advance.

Hospital hostel

We can offer simply furnished rooms in our hostel, located about 50 metres from the hospital. The room has a direct telephone connection to the surgical monitoring station and also includes an extra bed if you are accompanied by a relative.

The hostel has shared kitchen and bathroom facilities. If you require an evening meal, this must be brought with you.

Keys can be collected from the reception desk, located next to the main entrance on the ground floor of the hospital. The reception is staffed from 07:30 to 18:00, Monday to Friday. If you arrive after 18:00, please ring the doorbell and a member of our staff will assist you.

You will receive an invoice for your stay at the hostel.

You may contact Patient travel - Helsenorge for information about travels to and from public treatment facilities. 

Alternative accommodation in Odda

If you have been instructed to have blood tests taken, you can go to the laboratory on the lower ground floor (basement level) at Odda Hospital.

Some patients are prioritised for blood sampling, and we ask for your understanding.

Cafeteria

The cafeteria on the 6th floor is available to patients, visitors and staff.

Opening hours

Monday to Friday from 09:30 to 15:30. It is closed on weekends and public holidays.

The patient cafeteria on the 4th and 5th floor is only available for patients.

Many of the wards have their own dining rooms with simple self-service available for patients. Please contact your ward for information.

Kiosk

There is a Narvesen kiosk on the ground floor where you can buy food, sweets, magazines and other items.

You can change your appointment up to 48 hours before your scheduled visit. This can be done through helsenorge.no or by contacting us by phone on 52 73 90 00. Our contact centre is open from 07:30 to 15:30. 

On helsenorge.no, you will find information about your appointment in your appointment letter.

Please check in at the reception desk at the main entrance when you arrive. You can pay at the counter or by using Vipps.

The nearest grocery store is Spar Ådland, Olvikvegen 52, 5416 Stord. It is 1.5 kilometers by car, or a 500 meter walk via the pedestrian path behind the ambulance station.

The nearest grocery store is Bunnpris, located 700 metres from the hospital. The address is Hjøllo 1, 5750 Odda.

The multi-storey car park north of the hospital is reserved for patients and visitors. You must pay a fee to park. 

You can pay by cash or card at the parking machines, or by using the EasyPark app.

There is no number plate recognition at the car park. You must start and stop your parking session yourself using the EasyPark app. 

Prices

The parking fee is NOK 25 per hour. The maximum daily rate is NOK 155.

Haugesund Parkering Drift AS is responsible for managing the car park and the parking areas in front of the main entrance. Any complaints regarding parking fees should be directed to them. Information is available on the parking machines.

There are three charging points available for electric vehicles. 

Reserved parking

Reserved spaces for disabled parking are located outside the main entrance. Please remember to place the parking permit clearly visible in the windscreen. 

There are reserved spaces for blood donors and dialysis patients in the multi-storey car park. These are marked with dedicated signs. If you are entitled to use these spaces, you will be issued with a parking permit by the department where you receive treatment.

  • The car park uses automatic number plate recognition. You will receive an invoice from ParkPay after exiting.

There is no public pharmacy at the hospital, but there are several pharmacies in and around Leirvik town centre.

It is not permitted to take photos or videos of other patients or hospital staff. Photos or videos must not be shared on social media without the consent of those shown. 

We ask that you respect the privacy of everyone you encounter during your stay at the hospital, and that you only take photos or videos of your own family and friends.

The hospital grounds are smoke-free.

Inpatients who require nicotine products can contact the healthcare staff on their ward.

Please bring any regular medication you take. It may take some time to obtain the same medication from the pharmacy.

Please leave valuables at home. Theft can occur in hospitals.

Bring comfortable clothing and suitable, sturdy footwear. Walking barefoot is not permitted due to hygienic reasons.

Bring toiletries such as a toothbrush, toothpaste, a comb, deodorant and, if needed, an electric shaver. Also bring assistive devices you depend on, for example a walking stick, crutches, wheelchair etc.

Good hygiene is an important factor in ensuring patients receive good care. 

Free wireless internet is available for patients, next of kin and visitors.
